Blizzard wont let me play sc anymore, the play button has been replaced with update. The problem is the college firewall im on wont let me update it - it just results in an error. Is there any way to download and apply the patch manually or start starcraft without updating? I only want to play the single player campaign and it is ridiculous blizzard has locked me out of my game!
Hey DeMeNTia,
Is there any way to download and apply the patch manually or start starcraft without updating?

Is the game installed on a laptop that's yours, or on a machine (laptop / desktop pc) that belongs to the school? If it's the first, can't you update the game from another location? If it's the latter then I see only two options.
1) If you have access to another computer or laptop that has StarCraft II installed and patched up, then you can just copy the whole StarCraft II folder over to the other computer, if it's allowed by your school.
2) Go to your school's network administrators or help desk and ask them if they can help you with this. StarCraft II and Battle.net require these ports to connect: https://eu.battle.net/support/en/article/firewall-proxy-router-and-port-configuration
Its my laptop but Im nowhere near home so the only internet I have access to is here on campus. I tried the IT help desk and they said it was blocked by the firewall and there was nothing they could do. Can I not just download the patch somewhere and install it? I cant find a site for this though.Or better yet, forget the patch and just play the game. I dont understand why I cant play the single player campaign now - its the only reason I got the game!

I'm afraid not. They moved to a streaming installer and patcher where data is patched on the fly. You would have to use the desktop app in order to download all patches for StarCraft II and the computer has to be connected to the internet during the patching process.

Your game needs to be up-to-date, or the login server won't let you in.
Do you know where I can get the desktop app? I just need this last patch. Or are you talking about the actual blizzard client im already using?
I know your trying to help but this seems somewhat illegal and definitely unethical. Effectively blizzard has altered my game deliberately so I can no longer play it. I get that everyone has to be on the same level for multiplayer games but this does not explain being locked out of single player mode. I would recommend they do something about this asap...

You can download it here → http://eu.battle.net/en/app/ , but it seems like you're already using it.

I understand. I'm not a Blizzard employee but just another player like you are. There's not much I can do about it and I don't think the people over at Customer Support and Technical Support can do anything about it either. You could try posting your suggestion in General Discussion, the employees do watch these forums for constructive feedback and popular topics.
Unfortunately I have no idea what else to do besides the suggestions already mentioned. You could try running StarCraft II in offline mode, but I believe it requires the game to be fully up-to-date and that you must have logged in within the last 30 days. I haven't actually tested this yet but you may want to try this, and see what happens.

5. If you're in, try playing a single player campaign.
Nah your right in that it has to be the latest version to play offline. So basically there is no offline mode. They have removed the button to play the game and my only option now is to update which doesnt work, with or without internet. I think since it already knows I need an update now it not giving me any other option. So basically it seems theyve locked out my game until I go home and patch it. Seems like a particularly c*nty way to treat your customers!
Thx Deanx anyway for trying. Ill maybe try ranting somewhere else then and see if an employee notices. Got nothing else to do now!
Can you do a system restore or backup? I think that will help.
Hi!
When I was back in college I faced similar problems about games. I used a VPN service (cheap ones are about $5 a month) to bypass such restrictions. I am positive that can help in your case too.
While using VPN 'may' be against school's internet policy (it bypasses school's restrictions) there's no other way than using VPN or getting your own internet in such cases.
Hi. When you open the battle net app there is a little cog-wheel at the low right corner. Click on him then click settings. Go the 'game install/update' tab under automatic category select never automatically apply updates then click done. I hope I helped you.
this cog-wheel can also be in the up left corner.

Im not too comfortable doing a system restore. If it will change whatevers telling sc2 it needs an update then im not sure what else it will change.
VPNs an interesting idea though. Will look into this..
